The NHS Health Check is a health check-up for adults in England aged 40-74. It’s designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dementia.
As we get older, we have a higher risk of developing one of these conditions. An NHS Health Check helps find ways to lower this risk.
How do I get an NHS Health Check?
If you’re in the 40-74 age group without one of the pre-existing conditions below, you can expect to receive a letter from your GP or local authority inviting you for a free NHS Health Check every five years. In the meantime, you may want to try this online Heart Age test. If you would like to book an appointment before your letter arrives, please book an appointment with reception, requesting a health check appointment.
Pre-existing conditions:
Chronic Kidney Disease, which has been classified as stage 3,4 or 5 within the NICE clinical guideline 182 on CKD
Diabetes
Hypertension
Atrial Fibrillation
Transient ischemic attack
Hypercholesterolemia
Heart Failure
Peripheral arterial disease
Stroke
- If not you are eligible to a free NHS Health Check. These can be booked by calling the surgery and booking in with reception for an NHS Health Check.
After your appointment and once you know your personalised results you may wish to visit Health Cornwall for some advice: https://www.healthycornwall.org.uk/
